Re: Potted History
I did a job in Glasgow about thirty years ago with two blokes who were normally factory-based so regarded working away as new and exciting. We ended up in a bar in Sauchiehall Street with a couple of lads from the shipyard where we were treated to a demonstration of the traditional Glasgow Face Dancing. Glasses and those big square Tennants ashtrays were flying everywhere and taking cover behind the furniture seemed like the best approach. At one point in the shemozzle a young woman was clouted by a stray glass and one of my colleagues stood up with a view to going to hear aid. Just as it looked as though he was going to be brained by an ashtray, a big hairy arm popped up from behind a table and pulled him back down out of harm's way.
Once the two sides had used all the ammunition up the fight moved out into the street and we were able to poke our heads out again.
Fair play to the Glasgow Polis, they waited until the fight had blown itself out before they arrived to round up the walking wounded and cart them off.
Stockport boys we are here,
treat your womenfolk with respect and purchase our own refreshments.
