We've brought in Ben Jackson as left back, but he seems to be either played as a winger or left on the bench, whilst Dan Cowan is played out of position. Yesterday we conceeded two preventable goals down that side, because he isn't strong enough at left back.
Joe Leesley has now arrived as a left winger, so does Jim trust Ben Jackson as a left back or does he bring someone else in? We cannot persevere with playing Cowan out of position IMHO.
I think Bell and Mulhearn are struggling to make the step up. We've lost Warburton and his goals. Piggott scored a cracking goal yesterday, but he is a loanee. And regardless of Bell's form, hoofing the ball up to him doesn't work very well IMHO. Is Piggott the answer? Do we look for other striking options and loan Bell and Mulhearn out?
We've lost Jamie Stott, but I think Keane and Palmer have been very solid in defence (bar a major wobble from Palmer yesterday). I'd love to see Stott return, as this would free Keane to play in midfield and give us added strength. Turnbull has been doing a good job, but we are light on numbers and Stott returning would give us more depth.
I would have taken our position at the start of the season. The last two games have been disappointing, but maybe we rode our luck a little against Wrexham and Fylde and this is a bit of a reality check. I was shocked at how strong Aldershot were, especially in the first half. They are in the relegation zone, but they are a good side, they work hard, they wanted the 3 points much more than us yesterday and they have quality. There are no easy games in this league.
