THIS WEEKEND
KALAMAZOO
SHOW TIMES 387-8221
They mean Kalamazoo?, starring Josie Davis and Mayim Bialik. So, if you missed this movie when it first came out in April 2006, you have another opportunity. This movie was filmed in mid-2004 at various locations in the Kalamazoo area.
Kalamazoo's sister movie, The Dread, apparently had its world premier yesterday (Wednesday, October 31), also at The Little Theatre. Here is yesterday's marquee: HALLOWEEN PREMIER
THE DREAD
SHOW TIMES 387-8221
The Dread was filmed across the street at Western Michigan University's East Hall. People who attended WMU when East Hall was in use (about a half century ago when it was simply known as the administration building) are understandably upset this neglected, historic academic building was used to film a horror movie. There is nothing inherently horrific about East Hall. It's simply the state of decay that makes it an appropriate setting.
A second David O'Malley horror movie is currently in production in Kalamazoo: Buddy BeBop vs the Living Dead. This horror comedy will probably be released on DVD sometime next year.
The production of Kalamazoo? may have inspired the creation of a third movie, a documentary titled: Donut Day: 24 Hours at Sweetwater's. It was filmed on April 27, 2006 at the Sweetwater's Donut Mill on Stadium Drive. It premiered exactly one year later on Friday, April 27, 2007. A little over four months after that Sweetwater's was named one of the nation's top 10 doughnut shops by MSN.
