I'm sure John takes issue with some of the content, and that is to be expected. I've never picked up a book and agreed with everything in it.
But the notion I wrote "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story" for MONEY is baseless speculation on your part. How could you possibly know what is in my heart? I spent tens of thousands of dollars of my own hard-earned money, invested 13 years and thousands of hours to tape over 500 interviews with people who knew Jim and/or Mary Reeves and do other exhaustive research. I also relied on Jim and Mary's handwritten diaries, which are pretty hard to refute.
I produced 340,000+ words, in a 672-page book that is virtually a day by day account of the singer's life. You would have to believe that an awful lot of well respected people LIED about him to discount the stories I relate in my book.
In circumstances where I was uncertain about conflicting versions of events, I reported them all and let the readers make up their own minds.
There was nothing trashy in my book. I've had scores of letters from pastors of different faiths around the world write me and say they had even more admiration for Jim, and saw the spiritual side of the man, and his constant struggle to do good, while sometimes falling short, as we all do from time to time.
I taped my interviews to quote people accurately, and NOT ONE PERSON has come forward to dispute any of the quotes in my book. I seriously doubt you read much of it.
Great country music is a Reeves family tradition.
