However, after their father William died, their mother -- Eleanor ("Edie") Melvina Umphries (also called "Viney") -- remarried. Her second husband was James Timmerman. who had children. I haven't looked at my genealogy notes of late, but it's possible he had a son but in that case, Tom would have had a STEPbrother. As I explain in my book, Timmerman tried to cheat Tom and Mary Reeves out of some land their mother left them, and so Tom (though he was still in his late teens and thus legally a minor at the time), filed a lawsuit to reclaim the land.
One additional note: the Mormom database and other published accounts are completely wrong as to the identity of Tom and Mary's mother. They claim it was "A.J. Haney." This is impossible. That is likewise proven by court records which are indisputable, and which list Edie as their mom. Many people over the years have honestly thought they were related to Jim Reeves but they were not.
Great country music is a Reeves family tradition.
