As a carpet cleaner, I considered that as well as cleaning for the aesthetics, I was also cleaning for health. Beneath furniture, there is always a lot of dust. This type of soil is heavily laden with allergens to which so many people are sensitive. Then there is bacteria etc. Skin scales/dander form a significant proportion of the dust, and bacteria, dust mites and other nasties thrive in this environment. Then there are spillages which wick-out to a bigger area than the original spillage and are loaded with sugars and other food-stuffs for the nasties. OK, all of this takes longer to clean but as I said, it's my business model and for this, there is a cost, for which I was remunerated quite handsomely. My norm was one or maybe two smaller jobs per day with a higher ticket price.
It's not the only way to run a business, but it has been my way.
Safe and happy cleaning
