Test Question

Jim ended his 1964 Oslo Norway concert singing "Adios Amigo". He whistled twice during the song which can be very difficult. I was surprised at how well he did.

The question is that during the studio recording of "Adios Amigo" did Jim do the whistling, or did Chet Atkins hire a professional whistler if anyone knows.

Hard to say as I'm sure this isn't mentioned in the session details. Like you said, Jim's whistling was fine in the Oslo show, so I would think he would have done his own whistling on the record...

Your hunch is correct Mike. Jim did do the whistling for "Adios Amigo" studio recording from the research I found. The Bear book does not list a whistler, further proving Jim was the artist that did the vocals and excellent rendition whistling.

The Jury may still be out on this question Mike. I did find a site that said yes Jim did the whistling om A/A. later I assumed that the Bear book not listing a specific whistler meant that Jim did the job. And now, I can't find the specific page I found this info.

I know there is NO mention in Larry's book about this. Then another site states the whistler is "unknown" and can not be credited to Jim.

Anyone else like to deliberate on this issue. Surely the info is somewhere.

A check of AI says Jim did do the whistling but the session notes leave the whistling uncredited.

I guess no definitive answer yet, as AI is unreliable.

I'm surprised and glad the response this question has generated.

I think Jim's fans might naturally be curious as to who is doing the whistling. As for it not being mentioned in the session notes, I think these are simply limited to the musicians and singers who performed on these sessions...

Jim did the vocals, and whistling is a form of vocalisation. Hence Jim did them both.

I don't know who whistled on the record. But given Jim's whistling ability, it seems foolish that someone else would be used.
