In a moment of curiosity I googled "The Greatest Country Song".

Frankly I am quite surprised at the answer that popped up, and I vehemently disagree with the results.

I think Marty Stewart's contribution to, and the presentation of Ken Burns "Country Music Documentary" may have played a part in the results.

The "Greatest Country Song", was George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today", with Dolly Parton's "Jolene" in second place.

I can accept that "Jolene", might deserve recognition but I think "Crazy" should have been listed instead as it is an established Jukebox favorite.

I don't at all agree with George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today" as the greatest country song, although the verses are very touching.

I saw Jones live with Tammy Wynette at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford Connecticut, and his performance was mediocre at best. They were obviously fighting at the time.

I never really paid attention to the song as I find Jones voice kind of rough, and not at all as smooth and melodious as Jim Reeves.

I recently saw the AI generated version of Jones song and it was quite well done in my view. Better than the original in sound with great visuals.

I can think of many deserving songs. Naturally many of them are Jim's.

I welcome opposing views and opinions, always with an open mind.

Interesting question, but I find it almost impossible to answer. How can anyone pick just one song? Nothing against George Jones, but I was never into his music. And why he seems to be more popular and get more recognition than Jim, I'll never understand. "Crazy" by Patsy Cline would be a more sensible choice in my opinion, but I would most likely pick one by Jim since he's my favorite country singer by far. I couldn't pick just one song, but a few favorites that immediately come to mind are "This Is It", "Maureen" and "Missing You"...

I couldn't agree more with Mike. I never considered Jones in the top tear of artists vocally.

I know I have heard "He Stopped Loving Her Today" many times on the radio, but his voice was such that I never really listened to the entire song.

What got me on to this was seeing the AI generated video of the song with visuals that hooked me into watching the song in it's entirety and understanding the ending for the first time.

I also agree with Mike's favorites with many more other "works of art" musically, and vocally, by the greatest voice in the modern era, bar none.

The Faron Young version of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is worth a listen.
