I just happened to see an article about Jim Reeves on the Internet today. That alone was amazing. For a minute, I thought I was seeing things !! Quite well written and informative as far as I'm concerned. I would like to paraphrase (and direct quote) for the first couple of paragraphs.

On Thursday (Sept.3rd. Today) in 1964 Jim Reeves was on a seven week run of the number one Country charts "I Guess I'm Crazy". It was the first of Reeves' six posthumous chart toppers. It was also the final number one single he released before his death in July, 1964.

Werly Fairburn wrote the song and a guy by the name of Tony Collins recorded and released the song in 1955. Jim Reeves also recorded it in that year, but was not selected as a single. Instead, RCA released it as the lead track from "The Best of Jim Reeves..vol.11' in June 1964.

The article goes on to say that in recognition of songs like "Partners' and "He'll Have To Go" in the late 50's... "helped to popularize the production style which dominated Nashville's output throughout the next decade. The style's prolonged prominence allowed Reeves' material to remain successful for decades after he died."

Well, certainly an interesting point, and once again amazed this article made it in a newsworthy story and even published. Something VERY rare when anything pertaining to Jim's music is concerned. This is only a portion of the published article.

Roy, I never heard of a 1955 recording of "I Guess I'm Crazy" by Jim, only the 1964 recording that we are already familiar with. This is the one is included on "The Best Of Jim Reeves", Volume 2...

You are absolutely right Mike that there was never a recording of "I Think I'm Crazy" by Jim recorded in 1955. When I first saw this I wondered too if this was accurate. Many sites are printing this same date and it is incorrect.

I simply put this down as inaccurate information generated by AI. This seems to be the case.

I checked Larry's book and in the seven pages or so this song is mentioned, it establishes a May 1964 recording date only for Jim.. This is also listed (May 18, 1964) as the recording date according to the Bear book.

I also want to correct a name change on the first post.. It was Tommy Collins not Tony. a typo on my part.
