Came across this picture of Jim that I've never seen before, but can't tell if it's real or AI. Would appreciate some opinions...

Glad to see Mike and Roy are still ticking. I check back here often and was becoming concerned about the dearth of comments.

I too, have never seen this "rendition" of Jim before. Whether real or AI, is a little hard for me to determine.

I would say however, that the distinct shadows by Jim's face and lower lapel are questionable.

I don't think a professional photographer would light a subject from their right and from behind as the shadows seem to indicate.

AI makes mistakes, whether this is one or not, I do not know.

Nice catch in any event.

Well Mike, I had to put on my Sherlock Holmes hat to have a better look at this photo. Great find by the way and thank you for sharing.

Bob, you make a correct observation about the shadow over Jim's left lapel. Seems not likely any professional photographer would use lighting this way.

I have three suspicions that tend to make me feel this IS AI generated. First ... that none of us have ever seen this particular photo ....seems impossible that this has never been published through out the years...meaning recent issue. Second .... in what is supposed to be Jim's left had. His famous diamond ring is missing and he would never do a photo op without it. Third ... the watch is wrong. Jim never wore a dark faced watch. In every photo Jim has the traditional plain clear face with usually a gold strap, switching to leather according to what he was wearing on stage.

Anyway, that's my opinion and I hope more of you will join in this "Sherlock Holmes Mystery Theatre" conversation. Now, where is my magnify glass ??

I am ashamed to say that I was a police officer for 30 years and supposedly a "trained observer", yet Roy has observed many fine and accurate points, that I did not notice.

I concur, photo is AI generated.

"I say Holmes, you never cease to amaze me".

I trust "Watson" is doing well.

Howdy fellows,

I am still amazed what Mary did to keep Jim's musical career going for 20 years. I only wish she had released Before You Came Along as his last single instead of The Image of Me. My favorite station, KWMT, Fort Dodge, Dale Eichor, plays Before for me every now and then. She was also mad that Chet didn't release Make the World Go Away as a single from that session. Thanks to Larry for letting us keep this website going. Regards, Lyle

Roy, I believe you have solved the mystery of this photo. When I first saw it, I looked for the ring, but thought he wore it on his RIGHT hand. I was wrong. Looked at a couple of photos and there it is on his left hand. I didn't remember what his watch looked like either or noticed the shadow, but apparently you did. It's most likely AI, but still not a bad photo except for those few mistakes.
Good job, Holmes!...
