I almost forgot about today being Jim's birthday. He would be 101 today. I was 12 years old when he died and I don't think I had really become a fan then. I started about age 14 to really listen to his records. They have made a big impression on me. I still listen to Jim sing almost every day.

This is EXACTLY my same experience.
I was in Junior High School at the time and have a vague recollection of Jim's passing being announced on nationwide news.
Been a fan ever since.

Jim Reeves'death was certainly mentioned on the main television news in Britain and in the national newspapers too along with him being missing earlier. He was such a star in the UK and also in the charts at that time with two records. He eventually had 7 albums (I think!) at the same time in the top charts.

When Jim's plane was reported missing, my mom was glued to the radio waiting for more news and hoping Jim and Dean would be found alive. When they found the crashed plane, my mom cried for days and for a long time afterward whenever she put one of his records on. My mom and my older brother Gary were at the all star country music concert at Carnegie Hall that Jim was in on November 29th, 1961...
