Elvis and the Colonel sent this telegram to Jim wishing him luck on his radio show. Wish there were more photos of Elvis and Jim together. I've only seen two. They were both taken in Pontchartrain, Louisiana. One is a group photo with Jim in the center and Elvis on the far right and the other is backstage with a woman partially blocking Jim. Hard to believe there aren't more photos of them together since Jim and Elvis were both on the Louisiana Hayride in 1955 and they remained friends until Jim's death...
Mike...Thank you for the very rare item (telegraph) you came across and posted for us here on the Forum. To include the 'attachment' makes this even more interesting.
I am really interested in the date when this was sent from Elvis to Jim. I don't see any Mike, are you aware of a precise date ? If not, can any of our contributors offer an answer. Again, I think this is a wonderful find, just need a few blanks filled in, and hopefully a discussion will follow to find this. Seems this has to be in the late 50's but exactly what date??
I have often wondered as well why there are so few photos (just 2) of Elvis and Jim together. Over the many years they crossed paths, it seems almost impossible.. Can anyone offer an explanation. Seems there has to be more and are they being held by private collections, never to be shared. Just one possibility I guess. Thanks everyone !!
Roy,the question of when that telegram was sent is one that maybe Larry could answer. It does look like the date is there, but it's very hard to make out. For two men that shared a friendship for many years, it's hard to believe there are not any other photos of Jim and Elvis together. I can't remember where I read this, but Mary even said that her and Jim had Elvis as a guest at their house many times too. I have a CD of a radio show Jim did introducing his own recordings, and on it he says that he was talking with Elvis and Chet Atkins in the parking lot one day at Studio B. I believe he said it was in May of 1963. Unfortunately, they were the only three there, so a golden photo opportunity was lost forever. There are so many photos that exist of Elvis with people that were close to Jim, like Faron Young, Chet Atkins and Tom Perryman, but not with Jim himself. I could never understand this...
Hi Martin- This was a tape that a fan sent me years ago that I had transferred to CD. Unfortunately, I no longer have a way to do that. If I did, I would have gladly made you a copy...
Hi Martin- Ufortunately, I don't have the tape anymore. I got rid of all my cassettes years ago. After I had the tape transferred to CD, I had no use for the tape anyway. The CD could be copied, but I have no way to do it...
