Anita Kerr Death

I just learned that Anita Kerr passed away at age 94 on October 10. Her talent was immense and her contributions to the career of Jim Reeves, as well as many other artists, is undervalued, imo. She and her Anita Kerr Singers were an excellent compliment to Jim's voice. She was an arranger, a musician, a producer, and a singer. She was a great contributor to The Nashville Sound, which is the kind of music I most like.

Thank you, Gary for posting this notice. Somehow, I missed this news. Only a few months ago I read Anita's book, and I know you did too since we exchanged comments about its contents here on the Forum. Your kind words here are simply spot on. Another great personality that will be missed, and fortunately for us, we had her magical talent longer than most in the music industry.

Thanks from me also,Gary,for posting this news. Very sad to hear,but I'm glad she got to live to a ripe old age. Jim, and many other classic country artists of yester-year were not as fortunate. Anita and the Anita Kerr Singers did indeed compliment Jim's and other artists recordings with their unique sound. I have a few of the Anita Kerr Singer's albums on CD that they recorded. They had a wonderful,mellow sound and these CD's are very enjoyable to listen to. If anyone has a more recent photo of Anita, I would appreciate it greatly if you could post it on this forum. I've searched for one many times, but with no success. Anita will definitely be missed...

Yes Roy. I have always been facinated by Anita and The Anita Kerr Singers. They had a great sound. I liked them backing Jim much more than the Jordanaires, with all due respect to them. I just thought The AKS sound complimented Jim's voice perfectly. I don't know if Gil Wright is still living. I know Dottie Dillard and Louis Nunley have passed on. What a group!

Hey Mike. I love the song that I think Anita wrote for the album "We Sang With Jim Reeves" called "I Remember Jim". Love listening to that. Anita was a great talent.

Yes,Gary, the Anita Kerr Singers had a unique sound and they really were a major contribution to Jim's recordings. However, I believe on Jim's third album, simply titled "Jim Reeves", all the songs featured the Jordanaires, and I thought they sounded wonderful, especially on "Teardrops In My Heart", "Need Me" and "I Care No More". And of course, they were an excellent addition to Elvis' recordings throughout most of his recording career...
