Yesterday, July 2nd marks the 57th anniversary of Jim's last recording session at studio B in 1964. The songs recorded that day were some of the best that Jim ever did. A true fan could never forget great songs like "Make The World Go Away", "Is It Really Over", "Missing You", "Maureen" and so many others. We lost Jim just 29 days later, but his recorded legacy will live forever, no matter how many anniversaries go by. Jim will always be missed, simply because he was the best...
Thanks Mike for the reminder of this most important date in musical history. Of course July 2nd, 1964.
To echo your passionate words for Jim, I would like to add another point to show just how great Jim did his job. The eight tracks Jim laid down on that day (5 in the afternoon and 3 in the evening) is simply amazing and a testament of his complete love and commitment to his craft. By todays standards, it would probably take most artists a year to do what Jim did in a matter of hours. And pale in any comparisons.
You are so right Mike when you said ... "simply because he was the best"... Thank You..
If I had to pick a favorite Jim Reeves recording it would be very difficult. I love so many of his songs. But if I was forced, I'd probably choose "Is It Really Over", which Jim recorded on his last day in the studio. Jim wrote it and I've always loved it. I got the album "Distant Drums" for Christmas in 1966 (I was 14 at the time) and "Is It Really Over" is one of the tunes on that album. I had mentioned to my mother that I really loved to hear Jim sing, so she got the album for me for Christmas. It was the first Jim Reeves album I ever owned. I played it over and over until I about wore it out. Anyway, July 2,1964 was a very special day for us who love Jim.
