I've been very busy lately, meetings, writing etc., too busy to listen to JR for a while. But today I dusted off an old LP collection - '50 All Time World-Wide Favourites'. Side 3 has the following tracks -
He'll Have To Go Stand At Your Window Am I Losing You? I'm Getting Better I Fall to Pieces The Blizzard
All sparkling and smooth, and sounding like new!. A great selection. Now to listen to some Voicemasters.
Does anyone else have a favourite selection?

I don't know how I overlooked your post Martin because I have visited this page regularly.
Whenever I introduce people for the first time to Jim Reeves there are two songs I always play, which I think best illustrate the velvet voice:
"There's That Smile Again" and "Make the World Go Away." Jim was at the apex of his vocal talent on those two songs and they were recorded at his last sessions on July 2, 1964. Like a fine wine, he got better with age!
What is all the more remarkable is that, as you may know, songwriter Hank Cochran stopped by to see Jim at the session and Reeves recorded "Make the World Go Away" on the spot as a way to cheer up Hank, who had just gotten divorced. Anita Kerr wrote the string parts in a few minutes and Jim stepped up to the microphone and crooned the song flawlessly.
Thanks Larry. You're right about those two songs of course, they are masterly. Although nearly 56 years have elapsed since Jim's loss his recordings still are without equal in my view. Whenever I go back to them they still stand out as the best.
