I was watching an episode of the popular reality show American Pickers last summer. Hosts Mike and Frank search the back roads of America searching for lost treasures and collectables. I can't now recall exactly where they were, maybe the mid west, but in a barn Mike spots an old Jim Reeves poster. Out of a dozen posters hanging on the wall, this is the one he wants. Titled 'City Auditorium, Tuesday, may 21, 1961. Grand Old Opry presents Jim Reeves and the Lonely Blue Boys. By the way, the same picture of this poster is on page 115 of the Bear book.
Mike did buy the poster for $60.00. They discovered that it was a 1969 reprint. Had it been an original it could have had a price of $350.00 or more. Anyway, I have only been aware that the back up band were always referred to as the 'Blue Boys'. First time I have seen the 'Lonely' attached to this group. Can anyone recall this 'Lonely" being part of the official name? Maybe just an embellishment for this particular poster, but just don't know. Can anyone help me on this? ….. Thank you

Yeah, that poster was bogus. I don't know if adding "Lonely" in front of Blue Boys was on purpose or if the person that created the poster simply didn't know any better. To my knowledge, they were never called that. In addition, the date doesn't even match the day on the poster.

Good observation Ron. The Macon Georgia poster is completely wrong as you said. May 21, 1961 was a Sunday. I just recently saw a re-broadcast of the program and Mike actually paid $100.00 U.S. for the poster. Wonder if he now regrets the purchase.

It would have been worth the 100 dollars if it was for real, but it sounds like it's a fake, especially if the date is wrong. And yes, this could very well explain why the group's name is wrong as well. I would always recommend doing some research on an item to be sure of its authenticity before laying out a lot of money for it...
