WISH THEY'D ALSO RE-OPEN INQUIRY INTO JIM'S PLANE CRASH

Anyone who has read Larry's 672-page award-winning book, "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story," knows that he turned up much new information regarding Jim's tragic plane crash, including an eye witness, and the involvement of U.S. intelligence officials in the crash aftermath. Records pertaining to the Reeves crash have been sanitized from federal agency files and some were destroyed after Larry made Freedom of Information Act requests, according to a letter he received from the FBI. Other information relevant to the Jim Reeves crash is locked up with JFK assassination records. The two chapters Larry devotes to this topic in his book would make for a good documentary.
Along these same lines, there is something major that has just happened that is based on work that Larry and our daughter, Sara, did regarding another mysterious death: that of nationally syndicated columnist and investigative journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, who died in November 1965. There was no inquiry into her death, and although it was determined she died of a mixture of sleeping medication and alcohol, there are many aspects to Dorothy's demise which had remained unexplored. That is, until Larry and Sara turned up new info, including forensic evidence long buried. Sara wrote an article seven years ago called "Who Killed Dorothy Kilgallen?" Larry interviewed a prime suspect in the case and they also quote extensively from people close to Dorothy, including the man who found her dead in bed (but who was never interviewed by police).
You may remember Dorothy wrote a blurb in her column about the success of Jim Reeves and "Four Walls." She was an aggressive reporter who broke major stories and was the only person to interview Jack Ruby, the killer of accused JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. DK's interview never ran, however, because she died before she could publish it.
The story Larry and Sara collaborated on aroused the interest of Mark Shaw, a well-respected San Francisco attorney and author of 20 books. Relying on information supplied to him by Larry and Sara (as well as his own research), he just released a book called "The Reporter Who Knew Too Much."
He stated in his book that Larry and Sara are "gifted journalists" who wrote a "masterpiece" that should have compelled the Manhattan, NY District Attorney to re-open an investigation into the death of Dorothy Kilgallen (since there is no statute of limitations on murder).
Well, officially it has been announced that the Manhattan DA *is* going to open an inquiry into Dorothy's death!!!!! Some key witnesses are still alive.
This is MAJOR. It has made the national press, including Fox News, and the New York Post, a major daily newspaper, has already done two stories on it. A crime TV channel has as well, mentioning both Larry and Sara.
Below is a link to just one story on this subject. It shows you what can be accomplished when dogged writers do a thorough job of researching a topic and making things happen.
I highly recommend Mark Shaw's book and the fact that Larry and Sara were the impetus behind the re-opening of a major criminal investigation I think speaks well of the sort of work that both my loved ones do as writers.
Wouldn't it be great of the Reeves crash investigation could be re-opened?
I agree but its not as likely as there being an investigation of Killgalen's death.Jim may have been even more important than a journalist.Anita L. Cooper

This story has even made the British press. Click the link below for an expanded version, including more details.
The one thing that's a bit irksome is that the author is being credited with all these big discoveries pertaining to the Kilgallen case but actually much of this was supplied to him by Larry and Sara, who collaborated closely with him for months and furnished a substantial amount of the evidence on which his book is based. (They are quoted extensively in the book, but the press articles don't tend to delve into sources, though they have been mentioned in some articles). This is an example of the press being superficial and not explaining how this important new information came about. Larry and Sara are experts in regard to the evidence surrounding Dorothy Kilgallen's death. -- JULIE
I'm sorry Larry, that you and Sara do not get the credit for actually opening up this cold case which you so rightly deserve. Without your story it would never have happened.
I too wish that this would open up a new investigation into Jim's tragic death. There could be some mysterious circumstances hidden away in it too.
Either of these cases would make a great documentary or movie.
Always for Jim, Doris
Re: WISH THEY'D ALSO RE-OPEN INQUIRY INTO JIM'S PLANE CRASH
How can someone else claim the credit for Larry and Sara's hard work?! It's just not right and completely unfair. At least the fans who visit this forumbilical know who rightfully deserves credit for uncovering the new information. Yes, Dorothy's case should be re-opened, but it is just as important to know what really happened to Jim...
Re: WISH THEY'D ALSO RE-OPEN INQUIRY INTO JIM'S PLANE CRASH
I tend to agree, they do both Larry and Sara a disservice by failing to give credit where credit is due. As with any inquiry going back so far in time it's a certainty that it will be far from easy or straight forward given the passage of time. I daresay that any new investigation into the events surrounding Jim's tragic demise would run into similar problems. That said, perhaps Larry may have turned up some information in the course of his research for his book about Jim that despite the passage of time still could have the power to rattle a few cages and possibly make a few people nervous in the process..... Who knows.
