Today -- Sunday -- we mourn the passing of one of Jim Reeves's favorite female singers, Jean Shepard. She was 82.
I loved Jean's singing, as she was always in tune.
Year ago I met her when she came to my hometown. We chatted like old friends between shows, and she had one of her children with her and -- like the good mother she was -- kept checking on them on the bus, because her child was a bit ill with a fever.
Jean was also outspoken about the state of country music today, being adamant that it ISN'T country music! I think many people would agree with her.
I will miss hearing her voice on WSM performing live from the Opry...
