I think that's truly WONDERFUL news about the "Hayride." Thanks so much for sharing it. |
There are all sorts of talented people out there who never get a chance to be heard. This is just the sort of venue that could offer them exposure. I think it's exciting and I hope it comes to fruition.
I think the building will require a lot of work to make it usable again, but if community leaders can accomplish it, that's great. There's probably some millionaire or billionaire out there who could simply write a check; I don't imagine the restoration would be that costly.
Having it broadcast on satellite radio or even as a TV show would be a terrific thing and give the Grand Ole Opry a run for its money. I think the latter has really stagnated in recent years and I know WSM radio would dearly love to get rid of it entirely.
Especially if the "Hayride" hewed to the traditions of the music that originated in the South, and not the Hollywood version of country music with fake cowboys and singers reliant on auto-tune like we see in other places, this renewal could be a great thing.
But I think they tried to resurrect the show once before and it failed. Maybe somebody can post more details about that.
