...That was an observation Jim Reeves liked to make. Music really is the universal language.

One of my musicians called my attention to this video, and in viewing it, I was reminded of how much this resembles how we put together the overdub CDs I work on. I tap the talents of musicians literally around the world; some in Nashville, some in Atlanta, others in the Carolinas, or in Europe, etc. We assemble these tracks from the individual parts that are played by top musicians sometimes thousands of miles apart. And yet the finished product has a cohesion that makes it all come together.

Okay, one more. Street performers from around the world -- including a fantastic sax player in Italy and a chorus from South Africa (plus other soloists from South Africa...the country where Jim Reeves remains such a national idol) -- here is "Stand By Me."

Let's see a show of hands. How many of you think this music is more authentic than that of Brittney Spears (who's made $500 million and can't carry a tune)?

I have the misfortune of having a Brittney Spears behind the scenes of what she sounds like on stage in reality without the electronics. Shivers are now going down my spine!
I can sing better myself, although I doubt that I would look as good in her outfits!
Far too many "singers" today need all the jumping around, electronics, and general noise to hide their doubtful "talent."
Whatever happened to real talent?

The trouble with music today is that the music (if you want to call it that!)is really secondary. It's all spectacle now! The electronics, special effects and all the dancers on stage with the artist are what captures the fans attention. The music itself doesn't even mean anything, and it's so bad anyway, that it could never survive on its' own in a live concert without all the gimmicks---thus all the special effects and fancy dancers to distract anyone from noticing there is really no talent involved in the music itself! Can anyone name even one song of Britney Spears that could be considered a classic 50 years from now?! It stuns me to see the awful music of today selling in the millions! The young people of today sadly have no idea what real talent is!
