Hi Larry
I wonder if anyone else has noticed this oddity. The side one label says side 2 with the correct song listings for side 1. Side 2 label says side 1 with the correct song listings for side 2. Were all records of this album pressed with this error? When I first played this record I put side 1 on and found out it was side 2.

Hi Allen, Yes I remembered mine being that way as well now that you mentioned it. I got it out and confirmed it is the same as you describe. So that makes TWO of them at least! On the back cover of the jacket, near the lower left corner, is a small "2". I don't know the exact code RCA used, but I know that it refers to the pressing, or release number. Perhaps no number is first pressing, "2" is second, etc... not sure. It would be interesting to know what the number is on yours. And anyone else who responds to this as well. Frank

I have a small 2 on the back of my LP also. As far as the labels being switched, I don't know. I can't play LPs any more so I don't know which is side 1 or side 2. I have had my LP ever since it came out so don't know what the 2 means either. Always for Jim, Doris

Hi Doris, I have a copy of that album and it has a tiny 1 on the back lower left corner. It plays correctly and both sides agree with the song listings. Maybe the master disc got inserted upside down at the factory where the record was pressed, I don't know. Back in the 1960's most of the RCA Victor records were pressed at their plant in Indianapolis which just happened to be 5 short blocks from where I worked at the time. Also I was an anxious buyer of everything that was new from Jim Reeves then and may have got the first issue of the album. Later ones may have been pressed incorrectly, I don't know.

I have a small number 2 at the bottom corner of the album. I guess mine is a second pressing too. It's strange they got song titles correct for the side of the disc, but the side number is wrong. Maybe Larry can shed some light on this.

The picture I posted is really side 1 of the disc.

Just as a clarification: The only thing "wrong" is that the printing of the words "Side 1" on the record label, and the printing of "Side 2" on the other side, are printed on the wrong labels. The songs listed do match the tracks on the record on each side. So they are misprinted labels, not that the labels are on the wrong sides of the record.
It sounds like Jay has a first pressing and it is correct, and Allen and I (and possibly Doris) have a 2nd pressing where the digits "1" and "2" are swapped on the label. Jay, does your first pressing also have an orange label like the one in Allen's photo?
I happened to find another copy of this record today at a flea market with the small 2 on the back (second pressing) and it also had the 1 and 2 incorrect on the (orange) labels (I did not buy it).
Doris, you can just look at the label on your record and see if "Side 1" is printed on the side which lists "Medley: Mexican Joe; Yonder Comes a Sucker" as track 1, or if it says "Side 2" as in Allen's photo. According to the record jacket, the side which starts with "Medley: Mexican Joe; Yonder Comes a Sucker" should be called side 1.

Yes, my album has an orange label like Allen's and also side 1 and side 2 are printed correctly.

Frank, my orange label for side 2 says "Medley Mexican Joe". So I guess it is wrong too. Funny, I never noticed that before! You learn something new every day. Thanks. Always for Jim, Doris

Hi Doris
Looks like they printed the wrong side number on the labels. The track listing is correct for the sides of the disc.
