There's a nice article in the Nashville Tennessean newspaper about Rose Lee Maphis, a country legend, who now greets people who tour the Country Music Hall of Fame. Except most of them don't know who Rose is! She's 92 and along with her husband had quite a career in country music. They were both on the Town Hall Party show out in Compton, CA. In fact, you can see Rose playing guitar behind Jim Reeves in a video clip I will post a link to underneath this article...

Click the link below to see Jim Reeves sing two songs on the "Town Hall Party" TV show in February 1959 and you will see Rose Lee Maphis behind him playing guitar.

Wonderful lady still doing a superb job. However there are a lot of old country singers still hanging around the g old opry stage long past there sell by date. Sometimes their programme reads more like Gods waiting room creating a mistaken yesteryear view of country. Hopefully the emphasis will shift to upcoming stars that can progress JRs legacy as on this forum. There is another euro website that reads more like an obituaries column and has nothing new or uplifting.

The newer Opry members are not taking the show seriously, with few exceptions. Carrie Underwood (who did a spectacular version of "How Great Thou Art" with Vince Gill and proved SHE CAN REALLY SING), has indeed fulfilled her obligations to appear. But a lot of the others haven't.

So the Opry stage is populated with the older artists, as an interesting article describes. Click the link below to read it.

The article is astounding - average age 79!' . Carrie is super.

Speaking only for myself, there is no one at the Grand Ole Opry these days that would make me want to make the six hour drive from my home to see. If I were going to Nashville for some other things, I might attend the Opry, but then again I might not. The newer "singers" don't do a thing for me. I would much rather spend my money to buy a Voice Master's cd than to attend a live concert of whoever is available now.

I think, in time, the Opry is going to have to make some changes if they want to continue. The article said they don't require as many appearances from their members as in olden days. I expect they will have to become even less demanding in the future, as well as increasing what they pay performers.
