Some time ago I was in a local music store and saw a cd titled Legends of Country Music and when I looked at who the artists were I was surprised. All the artists were from the last 5 to 10 years! Even Taylor Swift was listed. I didn't know she was country let alone a legend.
I guess the young generation that run these record companies have no clue to who the real legends are. To them anything more than 10 years ago is ancient history and not important.

Speaking of legends, one of the last remaining legends, Little Jimmy Dickens, passed away today.

Little Jimmy Dickens was a member of the Opry longer than any other Country artist. Very sad that we lost another great from the Golden age of Country music.

Jimmy left the Opry in 1957 and didn't return until 1975. See The Tennessean article on him by Peter Cooper. Jean Shepard always disputed the claim that Dickens was the longest active member. She now has the distinction of being the longest: since 1956.
