Question about Jim Reeves 101-Four Walls: The Best Of Jim Reeves CD

Howdy folks, I have a question about the new Jim Reeves CD box set, entitled Jim Reeves "101-Four Walls: The Best Of Jim Reeves." Is this a best-of collection or does it compile the RCA studio albums? I've never been a big fan of "best of" collections, mostly because they seem to leave off essential album cuts and rarely reflect the mood or theme of the sessions which gave birth to the specific songs. Also, what is the significance of 101? Is that the number of songs from the RCA sessions? Best, Lance

Who knows? In that the box set is not scheduled for release until November (the actual date will probably vary depending on where you live (continent?).
Given that RCA normally releases "the same old same old" do not hold your breath for anything new.Voice masters along with H and H music are (is) your best bet in that department I would think. In that the set will be released in Europe from what I understand I would guess that what will be available will those cuts that were popular over there.Whether they will be digitally remastered or not I have not heard/read. Hey Lance,

Just a quick note re my earlier posting.....while I did mention RCA in my initial comments I should have stated that the label this set is coming out on is simply listed as "import" which could mean anything but they will probably be using RCA masters (perhaps even Abbott) which I believe are now owned by Sony?

As for the 101 that often means entry level,introductory or beginning which might reinforce the idea of 'same old same old'.I note that other CDs will be coming out i.e Pat Boone at about the same time with that number as well which may not mean the number is specific to JR.As well the price is relatively cheap so that probably does not bode well for the content.Speaking of cheap I did buy a brand new JR CD last year in a Florida bookstore for less than ten cents but then again all the songs were the old Abbott cuts.What is that old saying you get what you pay for ! There have been many CD's released in a series like the new "101" releases. The series all have different titles, but all the CD's feature all the big hits on each artist that have been released a million times over. I don't even have to see these new CD's to know it's just more of the same.

Howdy Mike, I looked up some of the other 101 titles and it's mostly artists from the 50s and 60s. Honestly, these look legal, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the order and placement of songs on each cd. Best, Lance

Hi Lance! From what you said, these CD's sound like they're pretty much what I thought they were. Just all the same songs, and not in any particular order. Releases like this are mostly thrown together without any reguard for the artist whatsoever. They're put out by the companies just to make more bucks.

Significance of the number 101---- a total of 101 songs on four CDs. All cuts have been released before as expected-a quick perusal of the track listings indicates all of the Abbott material and songs from Jim's early years at RCA.....nothing that 'real' JR fans do not have in their collection already.......... did not see the Macy recordings but then again I did not study the listings line by line...if you were looking for that JR classic -"Beating on a Ding Dong"- it is there (LOL). Save your coin for the new release of JR described by Julie else where on this forum. Cheers
