I just love listening to Jim's religious albums and one of my favourites is "I'll Fly Away". I heard somewhere that was Jim's mother's favourite too. I wonder if Jim put this on the album "We Thank Thee" especially for her?

Of course Jim put the song on one of his religious albums because it was his mother's favorite gospel number. As I explain in my book, she often would ask him to sing it when he visited her.
The new overdub contained on the 8 CD set, "The Great Jim Reeves," is a total reworking of the song to change it from the cliche original arrangement contained on the RCA album to something closer to how it would have sounded when Jim sang it with his buddies in DeBerry, Texas. I used acoustic instruments for the most part to give it a fresh feel.
