As has been mentioned on the promo page and the Fan Forum, the new 8 CD set, "The Great Jim Reeves," features a bunch of pro musicians who helped us add new backings to Jim's timeless songs. We really did use some incredible players (I think I counted a total of 31).
Anyway, among the pros we used are current members of the Grand Ole Opry band. Here is a very rare glimpse of one of my favorite singers, Gene Watson, rehearsing with some of them backstage before his appearance on the Opry this past Saturday night.
Click the link below to see the informality and fun of this rehearsal. It's fascinating to watch them at work and hear some good country music! Click the little box underneath the video to expand it to full screen size, turn up your speakers, and enjoy!
Notice that the piano player is not reading a typical line score or sheet music. He is reading notations based on the Nashville numbering system which I explain in my book, "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story." It was a concept credited to one of the Jordanaires, for changing keys to accommodate individuals singers without having to rewrite the music.
