I'm not sure if anyone else knows about this, but I just discovered on line that there is a 3-DVD set available of musical performances from "The Jimmy Dean Show" and it features Jim singing "Welcome To My World". There is a you tube page for videos you can watch from the show, and the video for "Welcome To My World" is in great quality, better than I've seen previously on you tube. There are other versions I've seen that were dark and very gray looking. These were barely watchable. I also saw a 10 minute video all about how the episodes from this TV series were restored. The improvement is very dramatic over the original kinescope tapes from the show. This means that a really good quality version of the episode featuring Jim and Edie Gorme must exist. Unfortunately, the 3-DVD set of "The Jimmy Dean Show" only features Jim's performance of "Welcome To My World", and nothing else from this episode. If only they would release complete episodes of this classic country series, we could finally have it on DVD.
Mary Reeves told me years ago she tried to buy a copy of Jim's appearance on the Jimmy Dean show but the owners of the program would not sell it to her. She was very frustrated by that and I remember expressing surprise that anybody would be so heartless that they would not realize the historic significance of an artist's final national TV performance.
Yes, Larry, I remember hearing that too. It's very frustrating to be a big Jim Reeves fan, knowing that this episode exists and not being able to see it. "The Jimmy Dean Show" DVD set looks like something I would enjoy having anyway, but I wish there was more of Jim on it. I really liked the segment with Jimmy Dean on the porch after the "Welcome To My World" performance, and this is not included on this set. Jim nalso sang "Bimbo" and there was a rare performance by Dean Manuel performing "Last Date" which was very enjoyable. Plus the finale of Jim singing "This Old House" with Jimmy and Edie. This would be great to have on DVD!
Mike, that is very clear! The lights must have been extremely hot. Mr. Reeves looks like he stepped out of a sauna. I then watched Connie Smith's network tv debut on another episode of the Jimmy Dean Show. I'm sure she didn't appreciate the way he was pawing her.
