Who wrote this song?

Does anyone know who wrote the song "I Remember Jim"? The song was sung by the Anita Kerr Singers in an album done as a tribute to Jim after his death

Anita Kerr is the composer of the song, "I Remember Jim".

Thank you, Gil. I wondered if the author was Anita. Pretty song that always makes me sad. I admire Anita, as well as Gil Wright, Dottie Dillard, and Louis Nunley. They were a major part of Jim's music, and contributed to many other artists as well. Thanks again.

I agree, The Kerr Singers offered a blending of voices that produced a very unique backing for many artists. They seem to have complemented Jim Reeves especially well, but they were also able to back very different sounding vocalists such as Bobby Helms (My Special Angel). If you recall, he was a very hardcore country singer who did not seem to fit the smoother styling of the Nashville Sound, but the Kerr Singers framed his rough vocals masterfully and produced a wonderful and pleasing song.

Do you know what became of Gil Wright? I know Louis Nunley continued his career in Nashville after Anita moved away, and Louis recently died, but I don't know anything about what Gil Wright did after being with the Anita Kerr Singers. I think Dottie move back to Missouri. And Anita lives in Switzerland. Or she did.

Unfortunately, I did not keep up with individual members of Anita's talented vocal group. In fact, you just told me more than I have ever known.

A quick internet search revealed very little beyond his association of Anita Kerr. His name does come up but, unfortunately, no significant information follows.

Yes, I agree that Anita Kerr's group did have a very unique sound and complimented Jim's recordings. It's interesting to note that they backed Elvis on only one of his recordings, although the group never actually recorded with him. In 1965, Elvis' recording of "Tomorrow Night", originally recorded at Sun Records but never before released, appeared on an album called "Elvis For Everyone!". This LP was released to commemorate Elvis' 10th anniversary with RCA. This recording had very sparse intrumentation, and to update the sound, Chet Atkins overdubbed Anita's group and some of the big Nashville session players of the day to fill out the recording. I believe Chet played on the recording as well.

I think the Nashville version of the Anita Kerr Singers would be a good subject for a book. If someone would write a biography of the group, I would buy it. They have always interested me. They had a great sound and I think Jim was very fortunate to have them to back him up. I have read more about Anita than the other members of the group, but I would love to know more about all of them.
