Re: Ken Burns Country Music Documentary
How right you are, Roy! This documentary hardly covered what anyone would consider to be the complete history of country music. Jim only got about a minute's worth of acknowledgement, which is really heartbreaking. And that's only part of what made this documentary so incomplete. It seems that anything that even had to do with Jim wasn't mentioned either. Very little coverage on "The Nashville Sound", no mention of Cindy Walker, who wrote so many of the biggest country hits, including many that Jim recorded, and so on. Burns was obviously swayed by a select few who seemed to decide for him what should be included and what shouldn't. I have always been a big fan of Ken Burns' work and the excellent documentaries he has covered in the past, but he really screwed up with this one. I heard that PBS also aired a special on Charley Pride recently, although it had nothing to do with Burns. It seems as if every artist in country music will eventually have a show done about them except the greatest of them all, Gentleman Jim Reeves. So much for any logic or common sense being considered in this matter...
