As part of the 50th anniversary observance of Jim Reeves' passing, a fascinating, 35-minute interview was posted on YouTube with Larry Jordan, author of the award-winning 672-page book, "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story." The interviewer, Mike Austin, asks Larry some really in-depth questions about the singer, and gets some intelligent, insightful answers! Along with this broadcast there are also some very rare photos of Jim that are synchronized with the topics as they are discussed. Though you may have heard bits and pieces of some of this before, there is a substantial amount of NEW commentary from Larry, whom guitarist Leo Jackson called "the world's foremost authority on Jim," having spent 13 years researching and writing a major biography on Reeves, conducting over 500 interviews, and having copies of Jim and Mary's personal diaries and private correspondence.
Not even Jim's best friends and family members, nor any other so-called "fan club experts" or "senior Reeves historians" have ever managed to compile such a comprehensive and ACCURATE portrait of the worldwide singing star.
Interestingly, Sony (SME) tried to get the interview with Larry taken down from YouTube, probably because they know he does Jim Reeves releases (overdubs that are better than the retreads they put out), but their legal challenge did not succeed. SME lost after Larry's legal representatives swung into action. David beat Goliath.
To try to censor a video in which an author talks about an artist Sony doesn't even care about anymore is really ridiculous and an insult to the fans.
So go ahead and view the video and learn what Sony didn't want you to hear about Jim Reeves!
