I am an average, everyday working man, who heard the great voice of Jim Reeves over 40 years ago in the back seat of my parents station wagon. At that instant, I knew I wanted to hear everything this man had EVER recorded, good or bad. I bought everything the retailers had to offer my whole life, and a vast majority was just the same old recordings in different packaging, but I wanted ANYTHING that even APPEARED as new. I waited and waited for someone to write a book about this man, and when Streissguth came out with his, I was elated....sadly, it was a poorly written, ill informed account of Gentleman Jim. What little accuracy that was in it could be found on the sleeve of almost any Reeves album..
Fast forward to present... When I read (three full times) the book by Larry Jordan, I felt a whole new respect, and closeness to the music of Jim Reeves. This GOD 9as I saw him) was someone just like me and you, only with a talent unprecedented...the book is WELL WRITTEN, VERIFIABLE, and impossible to put down when you get started. It is obvious that Larry has a deep love and respect for Jim as we his fans all do.
The fact that he has taken it upon himself to share newly recorded music from Jim Reeves is exactly what Jim Reeves would have wanted. He is now not relegated to some vault somewhere, but has instead become a figure for the ages.
Simply put, we the fans will always have the original recordings. They are never going anywhere, but now we have music from Jim that would never have seen the light of day, and why should they in their original state? WE LOVE JIM REEVES, and his MUSIC, and want nothing more than to be treated to it as long as it is possible, so PLEASE leave this man, his family, and their tireless efforts to preserve and extend the life of this music alone!!
