Wow again.
That is my favorite of all the CDs and as Tony Wall (whom I have not communicated with whatsoever on this matter) wrote, it's worth the price of the whole set. The elegance and fresh treatment of those songs is incredible, due to the extraordinary musicianship.
Mr. Kent, you say you've "never been a great fan of overdubbing" so WHY DID YOU BUY THIS CD SET? There are hundreds of CDs out there that contain the same old same old tracks by Jim.
Jim Reeves would have never had 34 charted hits after his death, or remained on the charts for 20 more years after he died, if Mary had followed your line of thinking. Updating Jim's sound gets him radio airplay worldwide.
"He'll Have To Go" only has very soft strings behind it...something that JIM HIMSELF WANTED as evidenced by the fact he had charts written to add strings when he performed with the Nashville Symphony and also sang with orchestras here and there, including on his last European tour in 1964.
But to each his own taste. I appreciate your writing in but one thing this CD set does NOT have is "harshness." Maybe your stereo system isn't adjusted properly.
But don't take my word for it fans. LISTEN FOR YOURSELF by clicking the link below, which will let you hear some samples of gospel music on the new set.
