Link: Newspaper story on Jim
It says nice things about Jim but uses an old quote from Chet Atkins saying "he was very difficult with the musicians and engineers. He had a hell of a temper."
I know Larry takes issue with that because he has interviewed so many people who participated in recording sessions with Mr. Reeves and they never saw him lose his cool. But Larry reveals in his book, "Jim Reeves: His Untold Story," that the union shut down RCA's Nashville studio after Chet punched an engineer, and he also flew off the handle on various other occasions, once ordering Jim to do a re-take. Jim's response was: "Who's paying for this session?" Chet said 'well, you are." And Reeves looked him in the eye and said "that's why we are going to leave that song alone." Jim was through fiddling with it.
Read how Larry defends Jim's Gentlemanly image in the newspaper article. The Express is one of London's biggest newspapers and very widely read.
