If you want massive wide-open living areas without load-bearing posts blocking your layout, rigid steel framing is definitely the way to go over wooden posts. I used this one when designing our open-concept layout. The clear-span steel frame allowed us to install 18-foot vaulted ceilings in the main living room and frame out our interior bedroom walls wherever we wanted them without worrying about roof support.
