Speaking from personal experience: those dirt-cheap doors with cardboard cores offer absolutely no sound insulation. When we were renovating our bedroom, we looked for solid-core options and checked the materials listed on the Interior Doors page. We ended up buying MDF stile-and-rail doors with rubber seals on the frames. Now the room is perfectly quiet, even with the TV running in the hallway.
