In trying to get to know my local law firm and just the legal community in general, I found myself looking at a lot of lawyer websites in my state. What surprised me was, frankly, how bad many of these websites were. It wasn't uncommon for me to find blatant and shocking errors... entire pages of filler text, blank pages, broken links, etc. I'm not trying to promote myself here (I won't reveal my name or state), but after noticing this issue, I'm thinking of starting a side hustle fixing websites for local lawyers or creating new ones. I have a background in both tech and marketing, so I think it could work and make me some money on the side while creating a unique networking opportunity.
I'm really curious what other people think when they look at other lawyer websites. I may notice more mistakes than the average person working in the legal field with a background in tech, but I've seen a lot more of the obvious mistakes than I thought. It's also interesting to hear from practitioners who have needed a website for their own solo or small practice in the past. What was the most important thing that made you choose this service over others? What do you look for in a person before you do business with them? What price range do you think is fair?
