Both upper and lower leaves are getting yellow patches. They are in my guest bedroom under a grow lamp for 8 hours a day. I water them when the soil is lighter in color and feels dry to the touch, so perhaps weekly. The Containers are 4 inches tall and about 3 inches in diameter at the bottom and 4 inches in diameter at the top.
I started these from seed several weeks ago and when I started to see tiny roots along the surface of the little "grow pods" (I am not sure what they are called, I am hoping you know what I am referring to).
The leaves have begun to fall off. I have given up on a couple of them already and today I looked and 2 or three more look like they are losing leaves. The leaves feel dry, but look green with the yellow patches.
I have a theory as to what is going on. Shortly after re-potting them, I notices some of them had a slight white film along the surface of the soil. Then gnats appeared. I believe these are fungus gnats and I found an article online that states that the larvae of fungus gnats destroy the root systems of plants. (http://freeplants.com/fungus-gnats.htm) The article suggests watering the plants with a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution, that allegedly kills the gnats and larvae on contact but will not damage my plants.
I have never tried to grow anything from seed before and I have never felt I had a green thumb, but have enjoyed these little plants. I know these are just plants but I really hope I can salvage them.
Thank you for taking the time to try to help.
