Yes, there's almost always a tradeoff or downside consequence for most plants. But I accept the price of that consequence because the euc pleases me overall. It now towers over all my other native trees.
I have two other E. grandis, all from the same seed batch. But the other two were kept in pots an extra year before planting out, so they are smaller, although not by much, than the first E. grandis I planted.
I notice these tree also have a ramifying root system, and lateral roots are somewhat raised above the soil line, running away from the trunk. In fact, some roots from my main tree prevent my lawn tractor (almost) from getting over top of them. No way would I ever plant this species of tree in my main yard.
