both camphora and subcrenulata (and the closely related e. johnstonii) have done well for me over a 15 year period. both are drought tolerant here BUT that may well because though we are very dry here in summer we are also very cool so drought stress and evapo-transpiration are greatly reduced. yes, think you really should try the scoparia a potentially much more adaptable species than pulchella. Frank Callia (aka "frank in cinnci") has some especially hardy seed selections and you might try contacting him to get some to try.
