Re: Eucalyptus in MO and KS
Jim, I have Hardy and Hardiest provenances of the species types you are looking for.. there are other types if interested that just behave as a perennial regrowth shrub but some growing to a amazing 10-13Ft in a single season. I can send you a few seeds of some hardy provenanced seed as this will give you the best results. There is One possible or even two Eucalyptus that have a chance of becoming at least a small tree if the winters are somewhat near average and slightly above average. Jim I assume your in a Zone 6 climate. I have had Neglecta upper buckland river collection survive minus 2 F with some leaf burn and top out here at 15Ft but never flower, Parvula stays basically small and dies out in a few years.. Best choices that I found are certain collections of archeri, gunnii var divaricata, bridgesiana, dealbata, gregsoniana,
Pauciflora Frost hollow collections only,
niphophila Frost hollow collections only,
Perrinniana,Certain collections only, Parvula, Upper tuross was the hardiest collection but just not hardy enough in my 18 years in test trials,Of course Neglecta, I have several different collections all within a few degrees of hardiness of each other the least hardy is around 5 and the most hardy is near 0 F.. Mannifera ssp elliptica and precox, Urnigera.. 2 collections super silver form and a super blue form has been the cold hardiest for me.. the Mt Wellington form burned out at 14F and Mt wellington is not very cold at all to close to Hobart, same goes for the Snug plain collection, and of course the many vast collections of Viminalis.. there are more email if you like Thanks George !
