it is not "unlucky" to top prune a euc---just not a wise thing to do as cutting the top will likely cause excessive sprouting at the cut point which will end up with lots of weak branches that are likely to break off in wind or snow. if you have concern about the tree bending under snow load you might consider waiting until mid winter and then cutting the trees back hard (do not cut now as the warm late summer/early fall weather may cause early sprouts that may be killed by hard frost) and they will likely resprout in the spring and become multi-stemmed trees which should be easier to keep from getting too tall---prune early in the spring to restrain heigth on the new stems. eucs do NOT transplant well as older plants---they grow fast from seed or young nursery plants. hope this helps.
