my big sydney blue gum (e. saligna---15m tall) was apparently completely killed by last winters cold temps. just noticed that it is starting to sprout from the base. hopefully will get a mild winter this time to allow the tree to try and grow back but the last 2 winters have both have episodes of night times lows of -5c or less for several days running so am afraid that new growth close to the ground will be in serious danger. wish me luck... (OTOH: as reported in earler posts, the closely related e. deanei got by with only some bronzing of some foliage this winter and now looks great!!!!).
