I have a tiny ptycho in the ground 2 years and it is also comming back from it's lignotuber.
I might mention that Eucalyptus woodwardii may be a possibility in sub-tropical Houston as Richard (on this board has seen it growing around San Antonio area, but I don't have the means to try it here.I think Richard mentioned the woodwardii took a bad hit with this winter's lows.
I have Corymbia eximia in the ground 3 years here but it has never been vigorous and is almost as frost tender as swamp bloodwood.
Also mentioned by Richard as growing in Texas, is E. melliodora and Corymbia erythrocorys, but these may not have made it this winter.
