Acacia and the cold

I've been experimenting with possibility of having acacias to go with my eucalyptus for a while. This past winter was much colder than usual, and with a nice bushy 5 foot A. mucronata flourishing in the back yard, I wasn't happy hearing the predictions of a colder-than-normal winter last fall. The plant got destroyed, but not all is lost. I inspected the base of the truck last week, and there, amongst the grass around it, I saw nice green shoots. If it had been a normal winter (or if I lived Charleston), I'm sure the damage would have been mush less. My A. berlanderi plants made it with flying colors, as did the A. greggii's. I do have others (in pots) that I keep cold, but protected in the winter. They're nice for the patio.
