Welcome to the club. I too love Mervyn Peake and think very highly of Neal Stephenson as well. I recently read "The System of the World" finally completing The Baroque Cycle. What a read! I'm glad Whittemore came to your notice and that his books were a discovery for you. Your note on Stephenson is interesting - I've never thought to compare him and Whittemore. The Baroque Cycle only now renders that a possibility. --Previous Message--
: At last I found a soul mate. Someone who thinks
: and feels the way I do. Not since The
: Gormenghast Novels (Titus Groan, Gormenghast
: and Titus Alone) from Mervyn Laurence Peake I
: had so much fun. The only living writer who
: could come close could be Neal Stephenson.
