Usually , the DMX address for any luminaire is done using a 10 way DIP switch and setting the address in binary . You need nine switches to do that. We usually use the 10th switch as a test switch to turn the light hard on or do a fade up /fade down cycle. You could also use decimal rotary switches , in which case you need 3 switches. You ship tham with a DMX address of 000.
Once shipped, it's upto the contracter to set the DMX address as he chooses.
I have attached a photo of a DMX relay card which we make in our company. Note the 10 way DIP switch. The 4 way DIP switch is for additional functions.
