    Lee Spencer talked about Dale Jr & Steve Letarte on Sirius XM today Archived Message

    Chocolate Myers asked Lee Spencer if Dale Jr needs to be concerned right now. Lee said Jr doesn't need to be concerned because she thinks he can come out this weekend and pull off a win. She said what is difficult for Jr to deal with right now, is the last 2 weekends, the accidents were not of his making. He has to reside himself to the fact that it wasn't anything he did. These are racing incidents and this stuff happens. Now they have to get to Daytona, get back on track and look at the final 10 races before the Chase as an opportunity to really make a go at this.

    Lee talked with Steve Letarte walking out on the grid before the race yesterday. She said he expressed what it means to be able to work with Dale Jr on a week to week basis. Just to be able to bring him up and make this deal work. Lee said Steve and Dale Jr are really having fun together. Lee said Steve talked about what a good time they have together off the track. She really thinks building that confidence and building that friendship makes the hard times not as tough. Lee said Steve is the type of guy that can bring a guy up when he is down. It has been a couple rough weeks for Jr and he is now 7th in points. A win at Daytona would get him back in the thick of things as it did with Kurt Busch this week. One win can really turn the tide for a team. If Jr just remembers what happened was not of his making and comes back with a solid finish at Daytona, they will be right in the hunt again.

    Lee also said you heard over Jr's radio was that he wanted to get back out and he wanted to finish. He was not resigned to the fact of being in the garage. When they finally went there, he kind of accepted it. Lee said Dale Jr in the past would have just taken the car to the garage. Dale Jr currently wanted to get back out and race. That is the difference of where he is right now compared to 18 months ago Lee said.
