I love history. My house is situated on the Rancho El Escorpion, the land owned by Miguel Leonis, a Basque, who acquired it through his marriage to Espiritu, an Indian woman. Miguel was a rough customer, a 6 foot 4 robber baron, whose lands in the west San Fernando Valley and Ventura County were measured in miles rather than acres. His home in Calabasas, acquired ca. 1850, is now a landmark known as the Leonis Adobe. The story of Miguel and Espiritu, encompassing every human emotion their complicated lives engendered, would make a wonderful movie. I'm surprised no one has done it yet.
