More Problems

About four or five days ago Mike began having a pain in the upper back at the site of an old football injury from his youth. When the pain came on, he'd make a gasping sound. We asked him if he thought it might be a kidney stone, he's had one before, and if he thought he needed to go to the ER. He said no. It seemed to get better, and then last night he got up from his chair, bent down to pick up some papers that had fallen, got a pain in his chest and began to breathe very heavily and rapidly. All this, of course, was complicated by his Parkinsons symptoms which had started to come on. He couldn't speak to answer me. I got out my pulse oxymeter, put it on his finger. I don't always get a reading due his shaking, but this time I did, his oxygen was low and his pulse high. I called the paramedics who checked him out and took him to the ER. A CT scan showed a large blood clot in his lung. He is being treated with blood thinning injections. I read that blood thinners just keep the clot from growing, but do not actually dissolve them, that happens naturally over time. I have not been able to speak to the doctor(s) yet, only the nurses, but they told me he is doing OK, is able to take his Parkinsons meds, and is speaking a little more. I am working night and day for the past 6 months since Stacey took sick, and I think I am at the breaking point. This last happening has put me over the edge, and I am not well.
