Although any taking of an unborn life is termed an abortion, to me the term is one where it is performed on demand rather than necessitated. Even in a State where abortion laws are restrictive, I would guess that where the mother's life was concerned, a pregnancy might be terminated without deliberately attempting to kill the unborn even though it might die or could not survive the process. I guess you might have to call it the intent of the process as to the legality of it. My mother had a tubal pregnancy a year before I was conceived and legal abortions were not allowed. The embryo or fetus had to be terminated. A friend carrying twins had to terminate one so the other could survive.
